Why Flexibility Should Be a Workplace Priority 

Flexibility naturally declines with age, yet the physical demands of industrial work remain constant—or even increase. Decreased flexibility contributes to musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), fatigue, poor movement patterns, and elevated injury risk. The Flex for Success program was developed to address these challenges proactively by providing a structured, job-relevant flexibility routine for the industrial workforce.

Program Overview

Flex for Success is a structured, 3-level flexibility program designed to be implemented on-site, pre-shift, or during scheduled wellness breaks. Each level includes carefully selected exercises targeting real job demands—focusing on core stability, posture, and joint mobility. 

Program Features: 

  • 5–7 minute guided daily routine 

  • Exercises scaled across 3 levels 

  • Designed to reflect workplace movement patterns 

  • Can be facilitated by team leaders or IPS staff 

  • Includes measurement and reporting tools to track impact  

How to Launch the Program

  1. Begin with Level 1 flexibility exercises. 

  2. Progress quarterly to Levels 2 and 3 to maintain engagement and build strength. 

  3. Assign a stretch leader or rotate participation among teams. 

  4. Reinforce participation with leadership involvement and positive messaging. 

Best Practices

  • Maintain daily consistency—schedule exercises at the start of shift

  • Ensure management and supervisors participate to model engagement 

  • Rotate leaders or create friendly team challenges to boost participation 

  • Track and share outcomes to reinforce progress and team motivation 

  • Consider using upbeat music or location-specific posters for support
